Rosa’s Thai Café, Chelsea

We check out the latest branch of London success story Rosa's Thai Café...

Rosa’s Thai Cafe has recently opened the doors on two new restaurants in prime London locations following a £500,000 investment – not bad for a venture that started out as a street food stall on Brick Lane. Rosa’s Chelsea and Angel venues are numbers five and six in the rapidly growing chain run by the husband and wife team of Alex and Saiphin Moore, with Thai native Saiphin bringing an authentic taste of home to London diners.

As with previous branches of Rosa’s, architects from London studio Gundry & Ducker were on hand to provide the interiors know-how. At the Fulham Road restaurant – within a Grade II listed building – they had the chance, for the first time at a Rosa’s place, to incorporate a bar into the space. The firm chose a distinctive Victorian white ceramic tiling to surround the counter which then continues around the walls in the dining area further inside, with more tiling higher up behind the bar in a warmer hue. The main eating area is simply decorated staying faithful to the brand’s roots, with decorative light fittings and a series of large panel mirrors. A couple of big specials boards face the door and alert incoming diners to such intriguing dishes as “Complicated Noodles”. The mind boggles…
