That moment when old and new meet; get on like a house on fire, get married, have kids, grow old together… well, that. When spangly, super-modern and 16th century Baroque marry so consummately, so effortlessly in tune with their own present and past… that.
The that I’m blathering on about is the majestic renovation of three Baroque houses in the pint-sized capital of pint-sized Slovenia, by local firm OFIS Architects. Complying with heritage regulations, the apartments in Ljubljana’s historic centre have been unchanged from the outside – but overwhelmingly remodelled from their internal courtyard. A reflective façade toys with the historical pillars and arches – elegantly mutating and ghosting them as the day’s light changes, whilst the maximum amount of daylight floods into the spacious apartments.
I’d never thought about living in Ljubljana. I’ve never actually even been there, so why should I have? That has now all changed.
