American artist Mark Jenkins‘ hard-hitting sculptural street art is finally the subject of a monograph, in the form of German publisher Gestalten’s 160-page The Urban Theater. Haunting and disquieting, Jenkins’ tape sculptures seek to provoke their viewers, and provoke they do – distress, horror and anxiety surely being key responses to his public works. The book brings together, for the first time, his pioneering street sculpture and some of the reactions they trigger. Dark and utterly compelling, this is one of the finest street art publications in some time.
