As a local designer with international repute, Nika Zupanc‘s first complete interiors project was perhaps always likely to be staged in Ljubljana. Her noir-esque femme fatale style – oozing with rich glamour – was also always likely to play a part. And it does, in abundance. With architects Arhé d.o.o. working the bar around a 150 year-old tree, Zupanc has reinterpreted her famed Black Cherry lamp to bring closer the interiors and exterior.
Brooding and stylish, AS Aperitivo definitely carries an air of aloofness – you may not want to pop along in your hoodie. And then there’s all that arty-austere; do you think there’s always birds of prey or mostly-naked gymnasts in the house? Count me in if so. It was only a few weeks ago – after featuring OFIS Architects’ Baroque Court Apartments – that I declared a desire to live in Slovenia’s tiny capital, having never even been. I’ve still not been, but it looks like I’ve found my new local already.
