Situated in a decrepit old shopping arcade, Granada’s Afterbang – designed by Serrano + Baquero, the architectural duo of Paloma Baquero Masats and Juan Antonio Serrano García – may not enjoy the most exceptional of surroundings. Shutters, taped up windows, chipped tiles and botched plastering. But, thanks to a sleek glass intervention juxtaposing its locale – and the sci-fi glow of the display units – it’s a strangely beautiful beast.
Aiming to revitalise the entire arcade with minimal budget, the clothing store will spill out into the hallway for exhibitions, installations and events – encouraging activity and footfall through the charmingly ramshackle shopping centre.
