One of the most blissfully handsome designer-meets-brand installations at last week’s Salone del Mobile came courtesy of Dutch design duo Scholten & Baijings. Essentially the dissection of a MINI‘s design process, the pair introduced their familiar colours and materials with typically graceful panache – the byproduct of “Art-Parts” (individual components taken from their usual environment and displayed as artworks) being particularly enlightening. Shining a new, stylistic light upon car design, the collaboration posed an obvious question; why don’t automotive manufacturers see these kind of projects to fruition?
