Beauty salons of any description tend to have a particular look, if it’s not clean and clinical, it’s Zen-like – all bamboo shoots and rainforest soundtracks. Sure, some push their boundaries a little; but looking like a visit to show caves like Dan yr Ogof or Cheddar Gorge… on acid? That’s a new one on us. Located in Polanco, an affluent neighbourhood of Mexico City, Wax Revolution is peculiar to say the least. If I was in the market for a back, sack and crack, would I want it inside a futuristic grotto of crystallised neon? Who knows, as I’m not.
One thing I do know, is local designers ROW Studio have fulfilled the We Heart criteria for totally violating convention – fit for purpose? Maybe (who wrote the rulebook on whale noises and soft focus landscapes anyway?). Exhilaratingly original, with an insolent reluctance to play by the rules? Definitely. And for that, we salute you.
