So, looks like hip-hostels are all the rage right now. It’s just a week since we introduced Iceland’s super-cool Kex Hostel, and now we’re over to Germany, to introduce Hamburg’s super-hip – and aptly named – Superbude (bude being German for a ‘simple cabin’). Super. It’s everything you’d expect, and more, from the new design-hostel; there’s little in the way of luxury, lots in the way of presence, style and fun – with a capital F. As with Reykjavík’s Kex, communal spaces take priority, and – with the Superbude’s Kitchen Club, cinema and sun terrace – there’s plenty to keep hip young things happy.
The rooms? Basic, of course – but there’s enough quirky design touches to keep eye-candy obsessives amused; and with private bathroomed doubles (complete with flat-screen TVs) from just 59€, there’s enough here to please even the more marginally elite of traveller.
