Combining three of things we like most in life – buildings, beer and Barcelona – we were pre-disposed to liking architect Jean Nouvel’s re-working of an old brewery before we’d even seen it, and we’re happy to report he’s served up a very large measure of stylish niceness.
Being a brewery, it’s good to see a healthy amount of glass and brass, and while the bulk of the Moritz beer brewing has been moved elsewhere, the new Fábrica Moritz, on-off home of the Catalonian company since the 19th Century, has an underground micro-brewery to keep the original function alive and well. On the other levels there are restaurants and shops, many maintaining the rustic theme of brickwork cellars, tin counters and interestingly exposed floor tiling. Nicely-lit visuals of the beer’s branding, as well as the sharp seating, provide the modernity.
A perfect excuse for another night out in one of Europe’s greatest cities…
