Inviting a select few artists and designers that fit with their core ethos – art, fashion and design – Galerie des Galeries (the 1st floor den of all things culturally significant at Paris’ iconic Galeries Lafayette Haussmann department store) have transformed their gallery space into a fascinating pop-up shop, that runs until 22nd September. Thierry Lasry’s celeb-adorned “futuristic vintage” sunglasses are on display, ÉDITION POSHETTE’s Simone Bendix will be showing her classical literature-inspired leather wares, and Galerie de Multiples will be showcasing their ‘affordable’ modern art editions.
But it’s not just in their curation of product that the good folk at Galerie des Galeries excel, it’s in the presentation of said goods. French designer Julie Pfligersdorffer presents a slick, non-conformist, thoughtful vision of retail; this is not just a pop-up store within a gallery, but a gallery within a pop-up store, where products turn art installation, and artworks are for sale. Delightful.
