Anyone fancy a rocket lolly? Probably not in the middle of October, unless you’re near the equator like me (small gloat there, sorry), so why not grab yourself a lolly made out of wood to stick on the mantlepiece and admire instead?
Fair enough, a bit of a niche market this one, but Milanese craftsman and designer Mauro Savoldi has managed to create something really quite nice from a seemingly absurd idea. Adopting the name Johnny Hermann (to hide his real identity while he’s having a meltdown, perhaps?), Savoldi has hand-crafted 150 individually numbered and unique ice lollies, recalling childhood memories of summer days by the seaside and preserving them for eternity – or until they biodegrade, but that will take a while.
Presented in an attractive retro box, the choice of wood, grains and colours give each piece a real personality. Slightly nuts, but very sweet.
