Attachments is a celebration of individuality in modern photography, from subject matter to technique to equipment. Curated by the folks at The Hole gallery in New York City, the work of nine wildly different artists has been brought together under one roof, each with their own distinctive narrative and style.
For example, blogger Sandy Kim favours the seedy side of life in her documentary shots, and viewers of her exhibition space plastered floor to ceiling with prints will be introduced to a cast of bon viveurs, wasters and the wasted. Peter Sutherland plays with the medium and perception of photography by superimposing a perforated print of one photograph over another to create a third image. Jim Mangan is more cinematic in approach, and his series taken in Utah’s Little Sahara desert includes the most mysterious of those images seen here; a man seemingly disintegrating into sand.
Attachments is on display at the The Hole on Bowery until 3rd November, so make it snappy.
