Being a design-focused magazine, we’re here to bring you the best that’s out there, and this place really is out there – all the way up the Amazon, to be precise – and the fact that this floating hotel even holds its own against the splendour of its surroundings is a testament to the ship’s aesthetic success.
As we’ve said, Aqua Expeditions cruise the Peruvian Amazon in a floating 5-star hotel (designed by Jordi Puig Arquitecto), but we’re not sure if a floating hotel has ever looked more hotel-like than this one. From the side, wood cladding gives an almost brick-like quality, as though a conventional three-storey hotel has been picked up and placed on a low-slung quarry freighter.
Huge widescreen windows afford the guests a cinematic view, and some protection against stray arrows from any startled bank-side tribesmen, and balconies and sun terraces are on offer for some braver al fresco sightseeing. As ways to see the Amazon go, it beats the hell out of a canoe.
