More commonly associated with hard-drinkers, modern responsible motorcycling demands changing with the times, and here to fuel up thirsty bikers in the 21st Century, as well as selling motorcycle paraphernalia, is See See Motor Coffee Co. in Portland, Oregon.
While the concept is novel, the materials that went into the construction of the coffee shop are anything but. In fact owner and interior design inspiration Thor Drake salvaged everything he could get his hands on to create the shop we see here – 90 per cent of the finishing material is recycled. Old timber, such as the walnut bar top and some 120-year-old former barn fir that forms the back wall, is a major feature, as are old bike parts which have been handily re-purposed.
The spray-painted fantasy espresso machine is See See’s pride and joy, and there’s more artwork to be seen in the annual 21 Helmets display of custom lids separating the coffee bar from the motorcycle area. We’ve run across one of the artists involved, David Gwyther aka Death Spray Custom, during this summer’s Create GB project.
All things considered, a great way to get your engine started.
