Brother and sister Adi and Irit Strauss are busy bees; having already created three of Israel’s best restaurants they have now branched out into the world of hotels with Alma, in Tel Aviv.
The building, which dates back to 1925, lies in the UNESCO listed White City area of the capital. Interior design studio Shaltiel Kastiel were tasked with creating something special, with help from mosaic and glass artist Lauri Recanati, and Alma Hotel & Lounge is the rather opulent result.
There are no half measures in the 15 boutique rooms and public areas of Alma – no chair unembroidered, no wall undecorated. In fact there’s something happening on every surface and in every nook and cranny. The lounge part of the place uses Georgian furniture which has been given a very modern and colourful going over, and while the overall look of the hotel might be a bit busy for some people’s tastes, we think in Alma’s case more is more.
