Already no stranger to British influence, Singaporeans can now enjoy a taste of the other island in the form of Keong Saik Snacks café/bistro – with the unstoppable Jason Atherton at the centre of the action once again.
We’ve featured the Michelin-starred chef before on the pages of We Heart, lending his expertise to tapas bar Esquina with regular partner-in-dine Loh Lik Peng, and the pair are at it again with this tasty little morsel. Keong Saik Snacks is something of a play in three acts, enjoying a very pretty pastel pink and white colonial frontage, and two distinctly styled dining areas inside – whilst the branding and website courtesy of Foreign Policy Design is worth a mention in its own right.
Pewter and pot, bottles and bleached wood form the main area on entering, while a little further back a brass bar with brash blue stools has much more of an American diner feel. There’s plenty of pan-Atlantic food on offer as well, from Brit classic fish and chips to a spicy update on the US staple hot dog, and of course the Asian influence is well represented, in the form of the kimchi burger for example. Something for everyone? Definitely something for us.
