People hanging out of pink trees, pink pineapples, party masks and gift-wrapped mythical creatures? We’d forgive you for thinking you’ve just come around after one of ‘those’ nights at Glastonbury. Howbeit, this is no muddy field in Somerset – this is Oxford Circus (every bit as overwhelming as navigating Worthy Farm’s peak time crowds, mind), Topshop to be precise – and this is their interpretation of a festive winter wonderland. Our friends at StudioXAG have transformed large sections of the retail giant’s flagship store into a kind of acid-dipped, girl’s fantasy grotto: madness, fairy lights and oodles of PINK.
It’s all in favour of Manchester-born designer Emma Cook’s collaborative collection, an eclectic range that embraces her famously whimsical style – and encompasses everything from the decadent Yuletide party (tinsel faux fur coats and metallic latex leggings) to the hazy morning after (cashmere hoodies and deer print pyjamas). Decadent, mischievous and drenched in kaleidoscopic eccentricity, Cook’s collection and StudioXAG’s vivid pseudo-reality are perfect bedfellows. Wondrous.
