What a blast from the past these two restaurant siblings are – if they’d have filmed a Dutch version of Back to The Future, this is where Marty Van Fly might have gone to drink milkshakes and hit on his mum.
There’s 1950s written all over Dit and Dit Ook (which translates as: This and This Also), two venues separated only by the width of a street in Den Bosch, Netherlands. From the vintage cabinets, light fittings, and chunky clunky stools to the drive-in movie-style billboard, the pair are kitsch retro heaven.
They are essentially non-identical twins; although the aesthetics, and the menus, are largely the same, Dit Ook is more of a drinks place, with cabaret and live music performances on offer in its olive and off-lime green surrounds, boasting a lovely white tiled bar as the centrepiece. With Dit the owners have gone for a more subdued colour scheme and more a more spacious table arrangement for diners. Two good.
