This collection reminds me of an old joke. What do you call a creature in a floral jacket with the body of a man, the head of a fox and a huge gold-plated pistol? Sir! Ahem, sorry, probably a bit early in the day to be polishing off the inexplicably purchased bottle of advocaat that got left after the Christmas party, but someone had to drink it. Anyway, back to this exhibition by Brit artist Yinka Shonibare MBE.
FABRIC-ATION is a collection of work spanning the last ten years from the Nigerian-educated, multi-media Shonibare MBE, who incorporated the Queen’s gong title into his professional name. Featuring some never-seen-before works, Yorkshire Sculpture Park is the place to see this varied ensemble; sculpture, film, photography and painting all crop up, including the real answer to my hilarious joke earlier: Revolution Fox, part of his Revolution Kids series commenting on African regime change.
His work will be carefully scattered across the Park’s open spaces, underground gallery, chapel and YSP centre from 2nd March to 1st September.
