It’s always nice to feel like your improving yourself while drinking – it takes the edge off the guilt a bit – so three cheers and a bottoms up for Culturefix in New York. Depending on which way you want to spin it to yourself, or your other half, you’re either going to an art gallery which is full of character-building mind-improvement only incidentally providing booze, or you’re going out for a couple of sherbets to a bar which through osmosis will naturally impart artistic appreciation, stimulation and inspiration through its environment. Everyone’s a winner.
As if it needed another way of enticing in the Arterati (not, I’m aware, a real word), the multi-purpose Clinton Street venue offers its customers traditional Mexican food prepared on-site, which is good news for the hungry and/or tee-total. Culturefix also opens itself as an event space for screenings, meetings and performance art – in the past it has hosted both independent ventures and some big international companies. What more could one place legally offer?
