Mmmm… the naughty yet trusted club sandwich, filled with juicy spiced poached pears, lemon curd and mallow ‘fried egg’ accompanied by crispy doughnut fries! Your eyeballs and tastebuds get in a delightful tangle with the Winter Club Sandwich, the latest foodie offering from Andaz Liverpool Street – and with the weather how it is, this couldn’t be a more welcome treat.
Created by food designer Linda Monique in collaboration with pastry chef Joseph Wagenaar, the small yet perfectly formed sweet is the follow up to last year’s LDF Scrap Lab. Invented to reduce food waste at 1901 restaurant with focus on seasonal food, the Winter Club Sandwich – which is available until the end of the month – aims to entice warmth and comfort. A pretty thing it is too, elegantly presented with just a hint of humor which is important when messing with the iconic classic.
Surrounded by the grandeur of 1901, the once Great Eastern Hotel’s ballroom has one spectacular feature – the glass stained dome ceiling. Sat underneath it nibbling on your high tea is a bit of a treat I must admit – it’s all rather surreal, yet the flavours work brilliantly together. Don’t expect a savory element here but do expect a ‘want more cinnamon fries with your Champagne please!’
