Unlike the English slang version of the name might suggest, you’ll be relieved to know that the B.O.G. Hotel in Colombia has absolutely nada to do with a toilet. The hotel is located in the capital city of Bogotá and belongs to the Design Hotels collection; so, as you can expect, it’s a pretty damn chic affair. Designed by Portuguese designer Nini Andrade Silva – who has Hotel Teatro, The Vine and the Fontana Park Hotel on her lengthy (award-winning) CV – the decor features plenty of golds and emeralds, two of Colombia’s biggest exports. Don’t worry, there weren’t any traces of its other, most famous export around…
Downstairs you will find a bar and restaurant, popular with the well-heeled local set – the venues are destinations in their own rights. It’s all about the glitzy and glamorous here, with sexy touches like cow-hide wall tiles and opulent gleaming golden flooring. But let’s face it, upstairs is where you’ll want to hang; the rooftop heated pool with views over the city and the mountains is quite something, as are the daybeds and cocktails. Rooms are simply done with lavish touches, think cow-hide chairs and blingin’ gold bathrooms. The business suites are spacious with the latest gadgets, free WiFi, huge beds and a killer tub with walk-in rain shower and when I say killer, I mean a seriously good shower.
The hotel located in the North of the city, was the first hotel in Colombia to become a Design Hotel and is still the only hotel in the country which comes with this seal of approval. Whilst the thought of visiting Colombia might fill some people with dread the city actually has a pretty relaxed vibe. I’d recommend a trip to the nearby Andres Carne de Res, or the newer sister joint, it’s carnage – and after all, there’s a reason you went all the way to South America right?
