Narcissistic? Nous? Taking self-referential output to a new level, French duo M/M (Paris) have constructed an installation that recreates in miniature all their previous work, displayed on a specially designed table that is itself reproduced in the scaled-down version. Everyone follow that? If not have a look at our picture of Infinitable [Mîse-en-abîme] and you’ll get a clearer idea.
The pair – known to their mums as Michael Amzalag and Mathias Augustyniak – have been working together since 1992, and their exhibitions are described as “an update of their archives”, revisiting and evolving previous works which spread out in all directions like an ever-growing vine. Their latest, C’est Wouf! at Air De Paris, Paris, focuses on their three-dimensional pieces, created for domestic settings either as a functional item or as something to look at while you are doing the ironing. The show features previously unseen work and exhibits created especially for C’est Wouf!, and runs until May 18 alongside a curatorial collection of various artists called Pétrone/Pétrole – check out the gallery website for more information.
