We Heart has been bringing you so much news on the latest design-smart Melbourne ventures recently that we’re considering postfixing the city’s name to ours… today we’re having a look around the new branch of Fonda Mexican (yes we are, since you ask) in Windsor.
The second-born sibling of the taqueria twins is housed in a former showroom, and when Techne Architects and builders Project Group came to strip out the derelict interior, what they uncovered was the attractive shell, including a cathedral ceiling and trusses, that has been retained in its present whitewashed guise. Techne had a hand in designing some of the furniture and fixtures, such as the Acapulco chair-lights, which take their place alongside imported examples from Los Angeles, while graphic designers Goldenhen produced a floor worth a gander at (poultry joke…anyone? Anyone? No? Please yourselves). You can find out more about this place and its Richmond forerunner at the Fonda Mexican website.
