Read all about it! Making the headlines at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Avenue station is The Newsstand, an independent edition of the traditional paper and mag kiosk which has cancelled the subscriptions to Vogue et al and is instead focusing on zines from around the world, curated by Lele Saveri of the 8-Ball Zine Fair.
Is there still a future for the printed word? You bet there is; what the zines lack in gloss, they more than make up for in creative expression and alternative viewpoints. Delivered in a cool branded paper bag, the offerings from a host of zine publishers are perfect for train journeys, and when you’ve finished reading, you can cut eye holes in them and spy on the other passengers. Try doing that with a Kindle. Creative agency ALLDAYEVERYDAY are the other half of the project which is running until 20th July – the stand is at the G and L train intersections if you are travelling through Williamsburg.
