Not a boozing bar but an Italian panini bar, Bar Testoni in Sydney is a contemporary place to pick up a sandwich and coffee in the Mosman area, standing out from the crowd by its heavy use of black, punctured by sections of colourful graphics.
Testoni’s interior is the work of MAKE Creative. The agency took the paintbrush to the counter brick, and clad the length of the back wall in black wooden panels. Each table gets its own piece of art in cutaway sections which reveal a mural design painted by Guillermo Pagella. The studio’s design covers the whole of the opposite wall, beginning with Bar Testoni’s brand character, a monocled and moustachioed gent made of a teaspoon and a coffee cup. On this side the panels are perforated, with removable pegs that make it possible to reconfigure the shelf arrangement. A lovely vintage red slicing machine takes pride of place on the bar – a supremely stylish way to prepare sandwich fillings.
