Supine's scratchcard collage miniatures hit the jackpot...

Warning: Many, many magazines were harmed in the making of this next collection. Judith Supine must have made his newsagent’s year harvesting the images that have been reassembled as the 70 miniatures and six large scale works that make up this headlining contribution to Thanks for Nothing, supported by Alia Shawkat at Known Gallery‘s Los Angeles site. Not only did magazines sales rise, but many of the small-scale works were produced on lottery scratchcards and cigarette boxes. Double kerching for the local 7-11…

Actually, recycling plays a big part in the production process. Supine finds (and pinches) much of his source material as well as buying it from the newstands, describing himself as a bit of a magpie – even his alias is in part nicked from his mum. This fantastically dishevelled cacophony of works mash together all manner of themes, such as race, social status, religion and cultural issues – linked by the common thread of money and the ritual of the lottery. See if it’s a winner at Known Gallery before 28 September.
