Ana La Santa, the brainchild of Barcelona-based Tomas Tarruella and his En Compañia de Lobos group, is the restaurant of the Hotel Me Maria Victoria Madrid. The culinary concept is to provide many styles of food within one venue, from tapas and small plates to full-on meals, and that approach has been reflected in the interior design by Sandra Tarruella Interioristas – it looks like four different venues rolled into one depending on which way you are facing, from relaxed lobby-style seating and tables to a fine dining arrangement in a few short strides around the central bar.
It’s a split-level space which creates a natural demarcation between areas without negatively impacting upon the visual flow. Ana La Santa been arranged to start informally with the lounge area and a greenhouse garden before getting serious towards the back, and the dining room proper features the work of photographer Luis Baylon whose images encapsulate the spirit of Madrid life. From a multi-facteted menu, the highlight is chef Jorge Arnoldson’s knockout paella. What else?
