What is For Your Loving all about? That’s not a straightforward answer, according to Elisa Rigoulet of Galerie Jeanroch Dard, who has curated the group exhibition. It’s about how images are displayed. It’s about image consumption. It’s about fascination and sexuality. It’s about stereotypes. It’s about the degeneration of the visual message. But most of all, clearly, it is about women in various states of undress.
Before we are denounced by displeased feminists we would like to point out that this is ART and it’s being shown in FRANCE, two facts which completely exonerate us from any charges of salaciousness. Featuring photography, collage, sculpture and video, the exhibition points out that we have never been exposed to as much flesh as we are today, and asks whether this over-exposure is reducing it’s impact. The artists introduce their subjects as fantasy figures, but their presentation encourages viewing from many different standpoints. Contributing to the show – that ends today at the handsome Parisian gallery – are Samuel François, Olivier Kosta-Théfaine, Justin Morin, Walter Pfeiffer, Benoît Platéus, Man Ray, Michael Roy and Joachim Schmid.
