Staying Connected

Tracing the vital relationship between art and the internet...

Where would we be without the internet? Unemployed and homeless in my case, desperately lacking in amusing pictures of cats, and totally unaware that we needed a list of 18 surprisingly short celebrities (ICYMI, Hayden Panettiere is only 5ft tall OMFG!!!). It’s getting on for a quarter of a century since the birth of the World Wide Web, and not only did the invention give a load of otherwise useless individuals a means of earning a living in general terms, more specifically it had a profound effect on the art world. It’s about time there was a survey of the interaction between art and the internet, and arriving right on queue, here’s Art and the Internet, from Black Dog Publishing.

Networks of artists connecting over the web, collaborative projects, participatory events, interactive art, seminars, online auctions, marketing and promotion are just some of the areas covered in this comprehensive, 240-page visual study, featuring 300 illustrations. The paperback is available directly from the publisher.
