He’s rude, he’s crude, he’s a Swedish skate art dude, and Jacob Ovgren is on his way to London to scandalise the natives with his risque cartoonish tomfoolery. The artist is best known as a key graphic designer for Polar Skateboards, but the wheels have come off for his SEX (Sick Emotions X-ibit) collection; paintings, drawings and prints are the order of the day in this, his first solo show.
Influenced by golden-era board art from names such as Mark McKee, Sean Cliver and Todd Bratrud, Ovgren is unashamedly adolescent in his style of humour – he probably drew the best cock and balls on his school toilet wall – but there is room for a bit of social commentary amongst the skate culture in-jokes and good-natured smut. Ovgren also provides the answer to the age-old question of what elephants get up to when no-one else is around. East End gallery Beach London is hosting the SEX party from 27 February to 23 March.
