Did Kueng Caputo forget to put the dust sheets down when redecorating their studio? Did the ghost of Jackson Pollock manifest itself during the night and start waving its brushes around? No. The Swiss design duo’s new series Never Too Much is a deliberate, artfully paint-spattered collection of benches, stools, bowls and lights with the emphasis on expressive freedom while maintaining a disciplined form based on Bauhaus shapes.
The stools consist of two parts: an enamel base, and a leather covered seat. The furniture keeps its sharp lines by wrapping the soft Italian hide around metal drums. The base is given a metallic coating before both sections are decorated with vegetable dyes. Various pieces of the collection can be paired and stacked, and with their simplicity in form and rigidity in structure comes great flexibility in function; there’s the option to use them as side tables or display stands. Never Too Much is currently being exhibited at Salon 94 Freemans, New York, until 1 March.
