Everything about the art of Miles Aldridge is turned up full blast. It’s high drama in high fidelity, the contents are high sugar and high nicotine, his pictures are saturated with colour, high gloss, and highly polished like a wax apple, leaving the same unpleasant taste of deceit in the mouth. The Age of Pleasure is an exhibition of the photographer’s stunning work at Christophe Guye Galerie, Zürich, and consists of images taken from the artist’s latest book I Only Want You to Love Me.
Having studied at Central St Martin’s, Aldridge began as a music video director before moving into fashion photography in the 1990s. Perhaps influenced by the psychedelic art of his dad Alan, the younger Aldridge’s creations also employ a kaleidoscopic palette, but star a cast of expressionless Stepford mannequins whose vacuity draws in the viewer, inviting them to fill in the emotional blanks in fractured scenes reminiscent of dreams. The show is underway and will continue until the alarm goes off on 24 May.
