Hackney Wick is one of those places in East London that has benefited tremendously from an influx of artists, musicians and other creative sorts who can’t afford to live in the posher parts of town and dig the company of their spiritual brethren. Number 90 Bar and Restaurant, which opened in March 2014, is not only catering for the needs of this crowd, but taking advantage of their talents to offer a cracking venue to the wider community.
Number 90, occupying a great location on the banks of a canal, combines its hospitality elements with a multi-arts platform. The venue’s recent launch party showed what the place is all about, as a host of musicians, DJs, artists, chefs and food producers gathered for events celebrating the area’s burgeoning arts scene with live perfomances, cook-offs and exhibitions. With four storeys to play with, there’s plenty of space for all these goings-on inside and outside; the 90 Main Yard building is also home to a music and photography studio. The look is fittingly eclectic, with quirky objet, assorted period furniture, salvaged architectural and material features and a generally bohemian groove happening.
