You know how it is when you want to go shopping for a new handbag or a bit of art but you can’t face the prospect of elbowing through a crowd of plebs, so you have to send your head of security into the boutique first to clear everyone out and give everything a once-over with the sanitiser before you’ll even consider stepping inside? No? Us neither. A new opening in Downtown Los Angeles, Please Do Not Enter, is on hand to cater to your prima donna whims with its appointment-only opening hours and ravishing aesthetic.
This is somewhere between a luxury boutique and a gallery, stocking one-of-a-kind, hard-to-find and limited edition items of swanky swag curated by Parisian art lovers Nicolas Libert and Emmanuel Renoird. The pair have emigrated to California so you don’t have to take the jet to France – that’s how much they love you, and want you to love their stuff. The name, which is rather unwelcoming even by L.A. standards, may be a bit tongue-in-cheek, but one thing that is for sure, is that the “private space” at the top of the PacMutual building is brimming with curatorial charm: clothing, jewellery, contemporary art and design – all assembled with exacting style for your purchasing pleasure. Stop on by after your unicorn milk facial, you will not be disappointed.
