As anyone who has folded themselves into an aeroplane seat for a flight from Europe or the States to Australia will tell you, it’s a bloody long way away. Not the ideal place to live if you like European and American fashion brands and prefer to pick things up and try them on rather than taking your chances with online ordering. Nicola and Orlando Reindorf feel your pain, and have just opened a second store in The Standard family stocking the best foreign imports for the discerning Aussie consumer.
The couple opened their first store in Sydney in 2012, with the latest addition located on Gertrude Street in the Fitzroy suburb of Melbourne. The premises is an old butcher’s shop, and as such boasts some lovely period details such as high ceilings and period window arches. Beyond the classy Victorian façade, the interior designed by the Reindorfs with Tim Magdalino includes copper garment railing and some quirky wallpaper by Jean Castelbajac. Have a gander at The Standard Store’s website for a full list of stocked brands.
