Finefood Kärlek & Mat (Love & Food – although presumably only the food part is on the menu) is a café in Stockholm designed to be as comfortable serving breakfast pastries as it is servicing the lunch trade and even serving a beer or two in the evenings. The venue is located in the vibrant new waterfront district of Hammarby Sjöstad, which has been built on highly regulated eco-friendly principles. Note Design Studio therefore looked to nature for ideas when drawing up its plans, albeit nature from California’s Death Valley. Jordan Sullivan’s collection of photographs showing the shifting qualities of light throughout the day in the arid landscape is cited as a major influence on the colour palette at Finefood. Hazy salmon and peach play their part, offset against pale green and turquoise. Also in evidence is the rocky terrain of rural Sweden, seen in the herringbone patterned floor and the Verde Guatemala marble. The latter is one of the few materials not sourced locally; Note has chosen typically Scandinavian light ash wood along with brass and leather.
To achieve the Finefood look at home, you can find the wooden chairs at Zilio Aldo, the floor tiles are by Mutina, the wall lights come from the UK’s Atelier Areti, and the Note-designed Fuse pendant lights are available through Ex.t.
