As the world’s third busiest airport by passenger numbers, London’s Heathrow can get a bit hectic – in fact, the coming and going never stops. With the international hub getting busier every year it was decided that a reorganisation was needed, and Terminal 2 is currently in the throes of a major overhaul. The Gorgeous Kitchen is one of the new offerings waiting to greet travellers there, and it’s just the tonic for stressed out passengers who need a breather and some top class refreshments to send them on their way again.
Keen foodies will recognise the names behind this joint venture: Gee Charman (former chef at Kensington Palace), Sophie Michell (executive chef of Pont St. at Belgraves Hotel), Jo Pratt (former food editor of ELLE and Glamour magazines) and Caroline Mi Li Artiss (YouTube star and momtrepreneur) are the creative forces at play here, and their photogenic faces are a perfect fit with the beautiful interior. Design studio Blacksheep is no stranger to restaurants either, gaining experience on next-generation airport eating while working on Jamie’s Italian at Gatwick; the firm recognises that airport passengers expect more from their airport experience than indistinguishable Formica-tabled cafés. Much thought has been given to the layout of The Gorgeous Kitchen, with restful pockets of tables eddying beside the main stream of foot traffic. Upmarket décor is highlighted with copper and brass accents and leather seating, and the wall-mounted backlit mirrors add a touch of vintage glamour. Involved in all elements of the restaurant’s design, Blacksheep’s beautiful branding buffs the glamour with a subtle contemporary polish.
