Why do you do what you do for a living? Was your job an ambition from an early age, something you were born to do, or something that you fell into while you were waiting for life to start for real? What is the irresistible pull that gets you out of bed every morning?
There’s probably someone you wish you could ask those kind of questions to – people you look up to or who inspired you to get started. Graphic designer and art director Andrew Townsend decided to stop wondering and start asking, and came up with The-Art-Form as a way to do just that, and share his findings with other like-minded people. The-Art-Form is a publication based on a simple concept – ask someone interesting to fill in a form with interesting questions on, and then publish the responses. Of course, this being aimed at creatives, neither the answers, nor Andrew’s presentation of them, is hum-drum. While some respondents stick to a formal reply with detailed answers, others are go down a more visual route, sending back paintings and sketches as well as words. The first issue of The-Art-Form features Ian Davenport, Peter Liversidge, Rana Begum, Dan Baldwin, Michael Reisch and Paul Insect; the publication is available in a limited run of 1,000 copies and can be ordered directly from the magazine website.
