The huge success of TV competition The Great British Bake Off is proof that baking has never been hotter. With the nation’s favourite granny Mary Berry and the inexplicable sex symbol Paul Hollywood fuelling our obsession with all things tart, pie and pastry related, it seems our appetites are insatiable, and it’s not just the Brits devouring baking. Over in Dubai, Home Bakery is on hand to provide all the hand-made sweet treats an Emirati cold hope for, without them having to make a mess of the kitchen.
What began as a small home kitchen project by founder Hind Al Mulla has exploded in popularity to the extent that a dedicated premises was need, and now Hind and her staff do all the egg separating and flour measuring in the kitchen of the Blacksheep-designed Home Bakery store in Al Safa. Comfort food calls for a comfortable environment to enjoy it in, and the interior space has been designed to resemble a home, with simple, honest materials such as rustic wood and natural fabrics being employed. Blacksheep also created the brand image, using hand-drawn lettering to reflect the hand-made products on offer. Pistachio plays an important role throughout Home Bakery; the Arabic baking staple features in the décor as well as the food. Out top tip to try is the Chewy Melt.
