I’m pretty susceptible to an earworm, and people naming their magazines after Cliff Richard songs don’t help matters any, but I’ll let The Young Ones’ Petrea Dickinson and Katarina Matic off. After all, who doesn’t love a bit of Sir Cliff? [Insert your own defamatory joke in here] The ladies’ publication is to be issued biannually and will look to kickstart a dialogue amongst Melbourne’s design community, and is especially interested in those who take an unusual route in their careers.
The magazine is organised into three sections; interview profiles fall into the categories of The Up & Coming Ones, The Ones to Watch and The Established Ones. As the name suggests, one of The Young Ones’ key missions is to offer students and graduates access to important figures in the city’s creative industry. The first issue carries pieces on the likes of Beci Orpin, A Friend of Mine studio, and Motherbird Studio, while the lesser-known names of Alice Oehr, Kristoffer Paulsen and Magdalena Ksiezak also feature. Issue One is 88 ad-free pages and has already enjoyed a second print run. Snap up one of the remaining copies direct from the TYO team.
