Most of us know someone who like to refer to themselves as a “collector” – someone whose shelves groan under the weight of umpteen pottery knick-knacks or who fill every nook and cranny with back issues of computer magazines. When it gets out of hand they make TV programmes about them on Channel 4, or if it’s really bad, Channel 5. But even normal householders accumulate stuff over time, and there comes a point when it becomes unwanted clutter and has to go, whether it’s listed on eBay, taken to the charity shop, or even chucked in the bin.
Now there is another way to deal with your unwanted stuff. You can send it to Jessica Walsh and Timothy Goodman, who are breathing new life into old tat with their Quotes on Shit project. The two artistic recyclers are taking in obsolete objects and making them desirable once more by applying a fresh coat of paint and some well chosen, nicely lettered messages. The revamped items are being given away for free to a good home, and the QoS duo are also looking for new pieces of shit to work their magic on. Obviously there are limits to Jessica and Timothy’s powers, but if you have something that might fit the bill, or have the perfect bit of shelf space for one of their creations, pester [email protected] for more details.
