Iain Howlett’s projection of the outdoors into an interior surrounding emerges from his project, Bark. Whilst embracing both handmade and industrial construction techniques, the London-based product designer combines a trio of ash, bronze and bark. The true essence of the pieces come with the returning of bark from the original tree, life given to his collection by layering it in the comfort of its own skin.

With the naturalistic hues of the bark and ash, the bronze accents complement Howlett’s minimalistic yet elegant and functional products. This works together to incorporate an earthly warmth into the home or office. By taking an antagonistic approach to product design he reveals the importance of incorporation and multi-functionality.
