Mwahahahaha! It’s that time of year again when kids dress up as Harry Potter and go around extorting sweets from old people with the threat of criminal damage, supermarkets are fantastically overstocked with pumpkins, and parents secretly wish they were dead. Yes, Hallowe’en is upon us again, and at 5th Base in London there is a group exhibition in tribute to classic B-movie horror cinema to sink your fangs into.
Starting on 31 October and running for one week, Horror Show is an illustrated homage to the best and worst of schlock-horror flicks from down the years. Thirty guest artists have submitted their terrifying takes on such films as American Werewolf in Paris, Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Thing, and as well as the artwork, there will be sculptures, t-shirts and even taxidermy on display and available to buy. The organisers New Rule Collective are also planning a book version of the show, featuring 50 pages of full-colour illustrations in a limited first run of 100 copies. Shuffle down to the Brick Lane gallery with your best Frankenstein impersonation to enjoy the show, and/or visit the New Rule Collective’s Kickstarter page to help bring the book project to life.
