As founder of art blog Platinum Cheese, Stephanie Chefas spends her days immersed in the new contemporary art world. She’s the perfect choice then to curate a group show featuring the leading lights of the scene; Platinum Blend is Chefas’s choice of the most interesting and innovative artists practising today, and is currently on show at Modern Eden Gallery in San Francisco.
Chefas’s exhibition is something of a visual mixtape. As the name suggests, the works have been selected not just because they are the curators favourites, but because their singular styles enjoy a sense of continuity when brought together. Brian Donnelly’s Fountain of Youth sees a woman’s youthful beauty pouring away like a streaky waterfall, while Candice Tripp’s characteristically dark vision of childhood sees her hooded young protagonist lost and abandoned in a menacing forest. Caleb Hanhe and Henrik Uldalen both take unusual approaches to the representation of the female form, as does Christine Wu with her many-limbed woodland nudes who seem to be in a constant state of motion. Platinum Blend runs until 31 January.
