The Crowned Hawk brewery stopped making ale at its Hoogte Kadijk plant in Amsterdam in the 1950s, but the red brick building survived the intervening years and after a bit of a wash and brush up it has now become home to Stout & Co bed and breakfast. The brewery is commemorated by the original bronze hawk statue perched atop a towering column at the front of the property, and beer lovers need only travel a few hundred yards to visit a thriving microbrewery at the end of the street, which does tours and everything.
Interior designers Stefan and Steven didn’t have too much of a commute for this job, as the duo’s studio is on the building’s ground floor (they also run the hotel). Their Stout & Co rooms are better described as mini apartments, as each has a kitchenette and dining area as well as en suite bathrooms. Decorated on a contemporary style, they all have their own colour scheme. A decked terrace area at the rear provides a pleasant oasis in the middle of the city – perfect for a sunny morning breakfast or an evening tipple. Cheers!
