I don’t know about you, but nothing makes me twitch more than seeing someone rip a page out of a public phone book in the movies. What about all the other names on the same page? What if someone else needs to find their number? Are these books replaced every week in America or something? Do these people care nothing for others? Society’s problems, distilled in one thoughtless act.
But that’s just a dog-eared phonebook. People doing horrible things to nice books is an unspeakable act of vandalism. Or is it? Not in the case of Share, from Malmö publishers The New Heroes and Pioneers. This is a book especially made for tearing up, but rather than being a selfish act, this is a good thing that you do. Featuring the work of up-and-coming young artists, the book is constructed with perforated pages so each piece can be removed and framed, either for you or, more appropriately, for someone else (it’s called Share for a reason). Founders Jens Lennartsson and Francois LeBled invited scores of unpublished visual artists to contribute, and have selected 50 for the book, with the artists supplying their own descriptions for their works.
