At 80 Columbia Road in E2 you’ll find Birdcage, the latest in Charlie McVeigh’s stable of boozers for the discerning contemporary market. The Draft House group is now six venues strong, with the selection, cellaring and serving of quality beer as the central attraction, although there’s no small measure of style to recommend the premises too.
At the Birdcage it starts with the Victorian glazed tile façade, and there’s more old-fashioned British pub design inside with the central wooden-clad bar and no frills old school furniture and seating, topped off with a few modern flourishes including lighting and graphics. The handmade pies are also well worth a visit.
