* Now known as Sea Containers London
To anyone not well-versed in both the hospitality industry and London landmarks, the name Mondrian London at Sea Containers is just a nonsensical string of words, but it’s possible at least a dozen people in the world will already know that a wing of the Sea Containers House building on London’s South Bank has been renovated by the Morgans Hotel Group to house Mondrian London — the first Mondrian-branded hotel outside the US. Stupid name, but there’s nothing daft about the knockout interior from the very clever Tom Dixon and the Design Research Studio brigade. Guests are greeted by a stunning copper hull lobby, each room is blessed with bespoke Tom Dixon furniture and a one-off artwork, and the public spaces are works of art in themselves.
