Husband and wife restaurateurs Rupert and Carrie Blease met while working in the kitchen of Raymond Blanc’s two-star Oxfordshire destination Le Manoir Aux Quat Saisons.
After stints at acclaimed venues such as New York’s Per Se, the chefs are ready to go it alone, and their first restaurant as owners gives a respectful tug of the forelock to England with the aristocratic name Lord Stanley. M’lord can be found on the corner of Polk and Broadway in San Francisco, where the menu and cooking techniques are influenced by European and Japanese cuisine.
Boor Bridges Architecture has crafted an interior of space and light. Floor to ceiling windows at the front opens up the 40-seat dining room, making it feel more spacious and providing views of the smart northern end of Polk Street. The double height main space is supplemented by a mezzanine with a communal table and backed by a sheepskin rug. Throughout the restaurant, the palette is light and fresh, with a mixture of natural materials and concrete lending his Lordship a warm yet contemporary air.
